DESIGN COLLABORATION
James Trundle & Isobel Napier

2023 - 2025

Since 2023, I have been collaborating with my partner, furniture maker James Trundle. Together we design and make furniture in our South London Workshop, and unique timber wall panels using our offcuts.

We first met while studying at the Slade School of Fine Art, where we began to refine our material practices. In our work - both individually and together - we blend traditional craftsmanship with digital techniques. Our aim is to balance the meticulous control of digital processes with the organic characteristics of natural materials rooted in tradition.

When growing up, as well as collecting mid-century textiles, I was hugely interested in the furniture design and architecture of that era. To be able to design furniture pieces as well as artworks, with James, is something that I feel very grateful for.

At the heart of our craft is a profound respect for the timber we use. We take a great deal of time to build relationships with local timber yards and hand-select characterful boards that showcase the inherent beauty of the material. Often, we let the timber’s distinctive qualities guide our designs, allowing the character of each board to shape the final form.

With a commitment to responsible design, we focus on sustainability and craftsmanship that ensures longevity.
